It doesn't take that long to learn to fly a Hulk. EveMon is your friend. My plan for a new character shows appx. 2 months - NO optimisation, NO implants, and not optimised just to get to a Hulk but optimised for a "Perfect Miner" with a few learning skills that actually slow me down getting just to the Hulk. WITH attribute optimisation and a set of +2 implants it's a lot closer to A month - and some of those skills you might already have if you fly anything bigger than a newbie Frigate or Destroyer.
Originally by: Major Trant I'm talking about these real players not the macro miners - I mean what do you do? You sit there watching a red beam hit an asteroid and then every few minutes, transfer the ore to a hauler and ship it to market. Then you make a load of ISK and repeat.
What do I do? I play something else on the next computer over - currently either Hearts of Iron III, Civ IV, or Europa Universalis III. Or I browse the Net. I eat. I get up to visit the restroom. Etc. My roomies are more inclined to play things like Counterstrike while they're mining, or do serious web browsing in the case of my girlfriend.
Mining is nice in that you can earn ISK while doing OTHER stuff you enjoy - usually.
Now, running a FLEET Mining op can be a lot like work - try running an Orca with 3-6 Hulks following you around feeding straight into your corp hold. THAT is not boring.....
I think the point he's trying to make is, what DO you actually DO with that isk? So far all you've told us is that you can make isk while doing other stuff or playing other games. But surely you don't pay $15bucks a month just so you can make some isk while doing other stuff?
The only possible reason, really, is to make isk to fund PVP or other stuff. But ultimately if you mine to pay for a plex, and don't even really play the game (apart from mining while doing other stuff like you keep telling us), then why bother playing in the first place? Wouldn't your efforts and concentration be better spent if you apply yourself 100% to whatever you were doing?
Disregard above if you DO mine just as an alternate activity in EVE, or as an isk making endevour to fund ships etc.
